Case Study: Kardex Intelligent Storage and Oracle EBS interface Development

We developed this application software for Kardex Ltd, an electronic Storage Systems manufacturing company having its operations worldwide and having head quarters in Germany. They were in need software which will communicate with their microprocessor based Storage Systems and the client's ERP software (Oracle E-business Suite 11.5i / Oracle Apps). The client is a very large Gear manufacturing company located in Gujarat, India. The purpose of the software was to have a complete online Store management and handling the electronic storage system automatically.

The client requirement was to reduce the operational time and also to avoid the duplicate data entry in Oracle EBS and Kardex Software. The challenge was to do handshaking with Kardex Micro controller based system and manage all the tray movements and also update the Oracle Inventory database simultaneously.

Solution

The solution was built in JSP to interface with Microcontroller with IP based access for each Kardex Shuttle. The interface software was hosted on Tomcat on Linux Server. Application is handling the complete stores and the material locations were stored in database. For storing the material in to system, the material was fetched from Purchase Receipt entry from Oracle EBS and then it was saved into database with Kardex location. The complete tray call /send was managed through our software.

The key part in this application was material issue management and inter organization transfer for changing material allocations. We did all the operation through single screen. The consolidation of shop order was done to save the material picking time. Also the shortage items were separately managed. We provided facility for pending receipts the data was fetched from Oracle EBS, so the store manager was able to trace the material movement before it arrives physically to stores.

For production department the correct and fast shop order issue is a critical thing, it improves the production capacity greatly. It was observed that our interface software has reduce the time required for issue by 40% which has resulted in considerable increase in the organization revenue.
